Saffron Walden is a very pretty market town on the borders of Essex, Suffolk, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire. It is within a hours drive of London, 20 minutes from Cambridge and 90 minutes from Norwich. The historic market runs on Tuesday and Saturday, with fresh fish from around East Anglia, fruit and vegetables, cheese, bakers and a huge array of other stalls filling the market square.
St Mary's Church adorns the top of the hill. It is the biggest church in Essex and has hosted royal weddings and concert recitals.
